LISBON
Populous city (almost 4 million inhabitants hinterland), alive and vibrant in the succession of predominantly eighteenth-century architecture and rationality, but also medieval, Baroque and Manueline, and after the Expo 1998, ultramodern, Lisbon is a city composite between traffic and neurosis of every big city and feel soft and mysterious in its richest part of history.
The entrance is most spectacular from the sea, as sailors dating back to the estuary of the Tagus, passes under the Ponte 25 de Abril and penetrate into the heart of the city.

 

BAIRRO ALTO
The Bairro Alto, Alfama with the other ancient district with its narrow streets overlooked by seventeenth-century houses, taverns and restaurants, traditional shops and modern studies that also interact with the world, artists' studios, small shops of young designers.
During the day life goes on in a strange mixture of old and new.
At sunset, the neighborhood welcomes a lively nightlife, mostly concentrated between the way Alecrim, Belvedere Sao Pedro de Alcantara and Camoes Square.
The night is full of worldly events and night around the Bairro is steeped in locals that live till late. The streets are full of university students until morning.
Crossing the Alecrim but it gets to the heart of Bairro Alto Square of Saint Catherine has a fiery sunset over the Tagus.

To climb to the viewpoint you can take the funicular from Calzada Olona, near the Blue Line station Restauradores Sao Roque
The cable car reaches Rua Sao Pedro de Alcantara, which ends in Largo Trindade Coelho

BAIXA
The Baixa is the other part of Old Lisbon.
Spread from the sea, where there is Commerce Square, towards the city center.
A long street full of trendy shops joining Commerce Square with Square Pedro V
Between the Baixa and Bairro Alto is the oldest City Elevator on top of which offers a beautiful view over Lisbon and especially the beautiful Piazza Pedro V.

SAO JORGE CASTLE
Hit one of the most famous is the Castle of San Jorge, who since the tenth century dominates the city from most of the seven hills on which it is developed, that dell'Alfama.
Transformed into a fortress by the Arabs, was retaken by the Portuguese in 1147 and remained a royal residence until the reign of Dom Manuel I (1521), whose statue stands in the square.
Keep only the massive walls, within which there is now a public park with terraces shaded by pine trees, but still there are distinguished three zones in which it was divided: the fortress, the citadel and the outer circle of the Moorish walls.
In 1910 it was declared a national monument.

25 APRIL BRIDGE
A masterpiece of metal, built in 1966, is 2200 meters long and its central span of 1013 meters, running a hundred meters high over the River. From there, shivering and traffic permitting, offers a beautiful view over the city and harbor.

MONASTERY OF JERONIMOS
The Monastery of Jeronimos was intended by King Manuel I in 1496 to give his dynasty a pantheon monument, the Monastery of Geronimo was built at the ancient port shipments in honor of the great navigators, at a previous church of the Virgin Belem, which was dedicated the new complex.
Like all the monasteries, the state passed in 1833, when religious orders were abolished, and was used as an orphanage until 1940.
Today is a museum and landmark.
Complex whose facade stretches for 300 meters and includes the original main building and the additions of the nineteenth century where there are now houses the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia and the Museum of Marinha, it is interesting that in a country doomed to sea.
Besides the rich do, stand the church of Santa Maria, with the two portals and evocative masterpieces Manueline chapels, and the splendid cloister laced, one of the most beautiful in the world.

BELEM TOWER
To protect the city and the port, King Joao II (1455-1495) built a series of strongholds along the estuary of the Tagus to Cascais.
The work was completed by his successor, Manuel I.
These, however, less concerned to defend the first attacks, in 1514 commissioned the architect Francisco de Arruda to build a fortress not so much suited to the defense as aimed at enhancing the prestige of the crown, the point where he commanded the fleet sailed Vasco da Gama.
It sort Manuelino a masterpiece of style, symbol of the city, rich in GEMINE windows, turrets and balconies of the Orient with fabulous effect. The interior, more sober, are an elegant medieval style.
The tower is located inside a small park where you see the plane in which the Lusitania in 1922, was made the first flight across the South Atlantic.
Beside the tower shows one of the strong protecting the estuary. Draws a bit 'Foreign Legion and is still occupied by the military.

17 km long bridge, one of Europe's longest bridges.

EXPO 98

What leads here, however, is not only a desire to spend half a day of relaxation or entertainment, but the collection of modern architecture which you can admire the spectacular works being different.
Just beyond, including antennas lunar peaks steel bleached, colored facades from buildings like the typical fishing boats in the area, construction of concrete light as glass and concrete and iron that seem wooden.
